I just purchased some saarinen tulip chairs and a table - LOVE THEM!!! I do believe that my chairs are original (br-50&51 on bases and they have the hopsack and naugahide bottoms on my naugahide seats though the lables are ripped off). I am not sure if the table and top is knoll though. The base has four holes for the screws (base is one piece and the top is trumpet shaped round as the bottom is but smaller) and the table top, laminate, but the edge is not the sharp knife edge that I see on the new knoll saarinen tables from DWR. The table has a nicely rounded edge but not severe and is painted not laminate. It seems to look like the pictures I have seen of original ones. The table top does not have that additional round section on the bottom of it to attach the base as the new ones do.
How does one know what they have is the real deal? ~L

Chair Knoll table not
I've never seen a fake or knock off with the BR 51. A photo would tell for sure. The Knoll swivel mechanism locks on the bottom with a lock ring like this on the American manufactured swivel chairs. You can see it if you turn the chair upside down and look where the swivel bar sticks out of the base:

I don't know how the new chairs are built in Europe. The table sounds like a Burke knock off. Post a photo of the base profile, underside of top, and underside of base for definitive call.

knoll or burke
I will try to upload pix of the table. I think that the base and table are not knoll. Just checked the photos of a knoll set that is for sale on ebay and the edge of my table and the top of the base are not the same as it is. I am assuming if I try to sell my table and it's a burke, its not worth much? My goal is to get a complete matched set that is in great shape. ~L

photos of table
I can't figure out how to post the pictures to this site so I created a web page. You can view the table at www.msnusers.com/l-designs
I am assuming that if it's Burke it is worth much less than Knoll. I do feel that I did well though. I bought the table, two swivel Knoll armless chairs and four stationary with arms in very nice condition. I am still searching for four more armless swivels and better pads for the arm ones. I can see that this is going to be a quest that will probably end up costing me a fortune. The funny thing is that I really love the saarinen and was hoping to buy a new set until I found out the price. And so it begins....... 😉 ~L

Arkana
Might be Arkana not Burke. Actually one of the better vintage knock-offs. Not worth what a Knoll would be but so what, a good looking solid table, I'd keep it.

burke tables just don't h...
burke tables just don't have the value of Knoll, for some reason all the Burke stuff i have seen over the years has always been chipped on the tables or legs. i have never seen one in pristine condition . and i have seen warehouses of the stuff. They used a cheap type of lament in the 60 s when they were making those tables
in Dallas Texas . also on there low tables, that look like a knoll knock off they used a cheap type of composition wood that chips real bad.
Burke was what you would consider to be a early day reproduction knock off.
