Okay, it’s 60s. 😅 But also looks good.

Herringbone, do you have a documented date when Wegner designed the JH logo for Johannes Hansen. I recall seeing it previously, but not sure if I've seen where it was documented. That certainly is a good marker for determining before/after production date.

@cdsilva Not a documented date. But I've asked Marianne Wegner a couple of years ago. She stated, that the logo was used from 1960. This fits with the use of the logo in adverts. I've got a couple of Dask Kunsthaandvaerk magazines with quite a few JH ads in them. And the logo appears for the first time in 1960, if I remember correctly.

from what I see, Johannes Hansen was not advertised as much as other cabinet makers on the Kunsthaandvaerk magazines, at least till the 50es. In the 50es at least the logo was not on the add (see pic below from Kunsthaandvaerk 1958), cannot be sure about the 60es but if @Herringbone says so I'll believe it. I think there is a difference between the advertisements and the logos on the chairs; maybe it was already in place on the chairs but there was not much space on the advertisements to put it there.

I'll look for the first logo I can find. And your right, it might be that there's a difference between the advertisement and the logos on the chairs. It may also be that Johannes Hansen used the start of operations at his new, significantly larger Gladsaxe workshop in 1958 to introduce a new logo. But on the other hand: If you have a new logo, why not use it wherever you can? Plus: From what I read in Ejnar Pedersens book, Wegner, who designed the logo, was not the easiest guy to deal with. He knew exactly what he wanted and was not very indulgent, when his partners had other ideas. I can imagine that he insisted on using the logo consistently.

@herringbone. I asked Mats Linder if there was a date on the JH catalogue he has on his site. Unfortunately it is NOT dated but he suspects it is from the late 50's, early 60's.

Not exactly precise but that is all I have !!!

@andersen. I did a Google "translate" on that page but I have found from experience that when you then post the link it does not come over. Sorry.

Posting screenshot of the relevant info.

@Andersen It's called Haandvaerk og Livsvaerk - a Life well crafted. It's only a couple of years old and should still be available in Danish. The English version is more difficult to get but you might be lucky.

I confirm in the 50es that logo was not used on adds, differently than fritz hansen, Carl Hansen, RY mobel, who used their logo.

Not really relevant but this goes to the original ID request. Apparently already in the 50es (also) this Wegner chair had replicas

@andersen I have checked now, and the first use of the logo I can find is from 1964. But I‘m far from having a complete collection of Dansk Kunsthaandværk. So it might have popped up earlier.

Thanks for checking. I have only a few issues of the 60es so I could not check that. I found the book you suggested and looking forward to read that.

Oh great, it‘s fantastic. The story of Danish Design has not often been told from a cabinetmaker‘s point of view, so that’s definitely an interesting read.
