i got more info to share about the chair i've been offered.
it turns out that it doesn't have tilt feature. it's not made by fritz hansen but it is made in finland by company called "tasokaluste" in the 60's. probaply under some kind of license of course.
has anyone heard of this model ever before?
missing tilt feature worries me. is it just me or should i look a model with a tilt -feature in the future?
I wouldn't touch any of the knockoffs
I've heard over the years about the difficulty of the Egg Chair's upholstery to adhere properly to the back of the structure, so I wouldn't want an Egg Chair that I wasn't sure was made by Fritz Hansen, complete with the tilt.
I never had the chair, but i did have the ottoman stool, which I sold on eBay for nearly $1000.00. Seems a lot of people have the vintage chair but not the stool.
I am not sure
I own one, that at the very least looks to have the following:
>> stitching appears to be hand stitched with a ___----____---- pattern.
>> Fritz Hansen label attached to the 'stem' with "0264", where the chair meets the base.
>> Aluminum base
>> No tilt mechanism
The chair swivels marvelously, one push can take you two or three times around.
Here's the ad copy on those selling the Fritz Hansen original:
The shell of the Egg is of polyurethane foam with fiberglass reinforcement. The shell has an adjustable tilt which can be adjusted to the weight of the individual user. The base consists of a satin-polished, welded steel tube and a 4-star base in injection molded aluminium. The Egg may be upholstered with fabric or leather and is also available with an automatic return mechanism.
That automatic return mechanisn costs an extra $171.00.
So, Fritz Hansen make the Egg with tilt on all its current models and for those who want to pay an additional $171.00, they can get the automatic return mechanism.
Hope this helps.
