Anyone seen or know if the dot stool was produced in wood veneers?
Perched to pick up 3 at bargain prices. The stools are 3 legged with what appears to be a rosewood or dark stained maple seat, bolts are flush and show through on top. Owner claiming a 1951 date which would seem to pre date their arrival in the market.
FH stools
I think early examples had the flush bolt detail. These are interesting stools because there seems to be a real design evolution going on with how the legs are attached I have a later example with the legs center mounted from below and with "floating" shock mounts on the 3 legs. In addtion to the center mounted stool, I also have three "project" stools where the seat had been mounted to the base by being glued to the typical FH shock mounts. Mine are in teak veneer molded plywood.
Just be sure you are getting a FH chair and not a knockoff. Look for an FH impression, or label, and compare the shape of the seat to other known examples.
The book, Scandinavian Design by Charlotte & Peter Fiell show the 3 leg stools with the bolt detail under the Soren Hansen section (page131). By the way, the date given for them is 1953.
I don't know if I am allowed to scan the page and link to this site.
