Fellow design addicts. I moved into my new house and its got these crappy ceiling fans with lights in them which I hate.
anyway. I want to replace the one in the dining room with a gorgeous rosewood veneer cylindrical lamp from Luzifer.
Being an open plan jobbie, the kitchen is in the same overall space (at other end of room). I was thinking of replacing the ghastly white glass pendants which are over the kitchen bench with three colourful 'Easy' pendants from kartell (perhaps in three diff colours - not sure yet. The kitchen is sleek white on white).
Do you think it looks okay to combine materials (plastic and wood) in the same general space, or should i keep all the lamps in the 'same family'.
Stephen,
That's a highly...
Stephen,
That's a highly subjective question. Basically, it depends on what sort of a look you want for your space, and what is already present.
If you 're after a serene look: you're better of using a repetition of 3 of the same lamps, in materials that echo the range of materials that is already present.
If you're after a focal point (see pic below), choose three colored / special shaped lamps, and keep the rest of the room restful and relatively neutral. (pic was taken from remodelista roundup on different lights - see link)
If you are after a very colorful, very playful, busy look, do what you like & splash on color. (e.g. 3 Panton flowerpots in red)
It is very very hard to say something sensible re: advice without a picture of the place & without knowing what your personal favorite style is.
However, regarding the Kartell lights, person. I would go for 3 all white shapes, or alternatively I would give them a miss really. I do not really like them very much. It's the sort of thing people fall easily in love with, but get bored with just as easily: I would select something that you will love for a very long time to come. However, it's your call.
