It is promising
The great American artist LeRoy Nieman who i had the good fortune of knowing very well was in Houston in 1974 for a book signing, after the signing we went out to dinner and took my late Girl friend (she died)
she took one of the paintings that i had done in High school and had the look of a Nieman , He took the picture wrote on the back and said nice work Lloyd
it is promising keep up the good work

"NICE WORK IT IS PROMISING KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK"

Symbolism
Not crap at all.
Hard for others to grasp the meanings behind the symbolism. The richness lies with the two of you=) My grandparents used to do these kinds of things. But they would affix them to empty liquor bottles. My G-pa even did a charlie brown/snoopy themed one. This was around early 70's. I cannot part with them.

mrs whitespike can do no wrong
I don't know much about art, but I know what I like...and I like Mrs whitespike!
But seriously, I reckon, it's bloody terrific. Nice work guys. I'd proudly hang it beside my Arne Jacobsen dining table.

Thanks
Nice to hear. I'm the same as many - I know what I like - I don't know much about the technicalities of art. In saying this I would like to add that in no way am I implying that I consider this art. That's up for discussion only for those that know better.
A general acceptance by a group with good taste is more than enough to satisy the efforts of my layman hobby.

Art is whatever you can get away with
If you like it and it has meaning for you, that is all that matters, if you make your living making art and somebody buys it, even better. Slightly cynical perhaps but many an artists career was made upon that very less then profound career calculation. Personally I think it's pretty cool, especially the part about "breaking for raisins"

Good, but...
Not a bad start. I'd be careful about your composition/surface. If all of the elements are floating across the surface (as they are now) is it intentional or random? Is there one thing that the collage is trying to say? or many things? or nothing at all? A challenge of collage work is keeping the artist's hand involved - because the individual pieces are ready made. Therefore composition becomes key.
This piece looks like it could be a loose narrative about family - the presence of the trees, the stork, etc. There is an S curve that is subtly visible. (Starting with the sexxy Hummingbird girl and moving right, towards the head poking in from the side, then up & left through the tophat man to the stork, and then right again. Pulling the figures together would strengthen that curve and better move the eye across the surface and through the narrative.
Sorry to be heavy with the opinion- all those years of art school and teaching have ingrained it in me.
But we're nothing without the mistakes we make. Keep going 🙂
