Arthur Umanoff was my cousin but I don't know much about his career except what I see on the internet. I doubt that there's any biograpgy of him, he died some time ago but you can probably get info on him from his son Craig Umanoff who
(I think?) is now residing in Oregon, or son Heywood, or daughter, Kim.
I'd love to learn more about
this rather forgotten designer.
I know that he designed the last batch of modern clocks for Howard Miller and a series of 'tiki'-like furniture for Raymor (wrough iron, slat wood, colored board door and leather pulls)
That's all I know about him. I'd like to know more.
About Art Umanoff
This is Lou Shornick, former owner of Madison Furniture Industries in Canton, Mississippi. Art Umanoff was our designer of furniture starting in 1962. He passed away in 1985 (too young at 61).
I am in touch with his daughter, Kim, who is living with her
Mother in Ardsley, NY near the Hudson River.
I left Madison in 1973 and he was still designing.
LooK up Louis Shornick in Google and you will find that one
of Art Umanoff's designs, made by Madison was used in the Star Trek Series as the basis of the Captains Chair. Story is there in the New York Times dated 3/19/09, yesterday.
Kim has a sister living in Richmond VA, a brother in Albany
and another brother in Portland Ore.
