"I guess there aren't enough...
"I guess there aren't enough people in my life that know classics to validate the ownership and praise my coolness for owning originals."
Well, if that is your reasoning for buying good design, then so be it. I think the majority of us here buy it because we personally appreciate it and enjoy having it around. I don't buy BS crap like that for my own personal reasons. I could give a toss about impressing my friends. But if you need to be validated that's cool. And I need to get a life?
Anyway, yes I agree that it's doing the nice thing by getting stuff like this removed for the unfortunate souls that would fall victim to it. How would you feel if you bought a $15 Target stool and thought it was an original Aalto?

And furthermore...
"To send them an email and threaten them....boy oh boy. Let the market work."
It disparages the concept of laissez-faire capitalism to imply that a seller's willful deceit & subterfuge are just wholesome market forces at work, which shouldn't be interfered with.

I didn't threaten to cut off his fingers. Only to report his deceitfulness. If this was unfair or out of line they wouldn't have things like the Better Business Bureau and the like. Consumers deserve to know what they are buying. Even if it's not a Porsche!

Hey!
I just revisited the chair auction-- note the reference to "design addicts", and the word "reproduction". Have these phrases been added, in a revision?

William: Never bought or...
William: Never bought or sold on Ebay. I don't trust it.
Whitespike: It's sarcasm.
Looking at this ad again and reading, how is this misleading? They mention that the DWR claim hasn't been authenticated and that there are no visible marks of identification. Look at the word REPRODUCTION in the headline of the description.
I see where the confusion comes from with the Paulin bio, etc, but still. It is still my contention that people who know design/designers aren't the people buying this and behind duped.
At least they didn't say "You are bidding on a picture of 2 Slice Chairs" 🙂

Now we all should write him and make fun that no one bid. He thinks the modernists are stupid eh? If you are going to sell a fake anything don't sell it to one of the most aesthetically inclined, detail oriented bunch there is! We'll sign on DA and inquire about the originality down to the type of screws used.
