I've always had a soft spot for that one.
My first trip to mexico was in the early 80's.
And a couple dozen trips since.
They are quite common on the coastal areas.
I've seem many different designs. Even tiny baby ones.
Often made out of re-bar.
A 'Fun in Acupulco' trip in the late 80's, (based on the Elvis movie),
I found a factory just outside of the city. We met a business man from
the Carolinas dealing in reclaimed wood floors while watching the
cliff divers. He walked us through the steps of importing...
That dream died with the trip. We had no money. Or spent it all on travel!
I was only 25.
It would be tough to find an original designer. The original i would guess
was created by a very crafty mind. Probably based on something mass
produced at the time. I would say the early 60's. They often look vintage
because the steel is rarely treated.
Nice to see the links above and i've seen them in NYC for sale as well.
A garden center in LA sells them.
I'd like to see one woven in cord. Spanky? tchp?

Anyone had any luck finding...
Anyone had any luck finding these in the US?
A search yielded a European source that obviously imports them from Mexico. Seems like it shouldn't be that hard to track some down here. If I still lived in Dallas I imagine I could find one pretty easily.
