I was faced with a similar dilemma recently when I turned down the gift of a nice-looking little old pickup truck in beautiful cosmetic condition with extraordinarily low mileage for its age. Unfortunately, it suffered from frame rot in the worst possible area. I could really use a vehicle like this one, so I got a couple of repair estimates: $6K US to end up with a truck worth $3K.
