Snelling was an architect who had a range of furniture in the 1950s made in a suburb near where I live in Sydney. It's very similar to the furniture of Jens Risom, which in turn was similar to some stuff in Europe. And now, of course, there are copies coming out of China.
There are plenty of original Snelling dining chairs around in Sydney - most in poor condition. The legs get wobbly and the chairs aren't really worth enough to restore. There are fewer lounge chairs around.
This one cost me $150. I pulled it apart, refinished the timber and re-dowelled and glued/screwed it. Then I got a bloke I know to web it - or his wife, to be more accurate. She's great. That cost me $250. I had the stool already and he webbed that free.
I already have one of these chairs with arms (+ stool), so I'm in two minds about keeping this one. I've put it on eBay to see if there is any interest.
Thought you'd all like to see the photos.
