We are about to pull the trigger on the Nelson Thin Edge bed with cane backboard, as I have always wanted one. This after going back and forth between that and the "cozier" DWR Nest Storage Bed. Anyway, I am agonizing about which legs to choose. I know, traditionally, the H-frame base is all that was offered. And I was inclined to go that route. I have read mixed reviews on both options - the wooden taper legs coming loose and the H-frame becoming rickety. There is a 5-year warranty. The installation instructions appear to show that either leg options mount in the same holes and are ostensibly interchangeable, but I cannot confirm that.
Anyone have experience with this bed, and can you recommend either the H-frame or taper leg? FYI, we are ordering the King bed, and it will be placed at least half on- half off of an area rug over hardwood floors, although we may get a larger rug. The mattress will be 10" foam and come in under the weight limit specified for the bed frame.
Thanks in advance!
@alemaniac - We don't have a real bed section, the thread is perfectly fine. Although beds have not been discussed here that often, probably because it's much easier to collect chairs. But maybe @tktoo2 knows something about Nelson beds?

Choosing a bed is always fraught, IMO. Maybe because a bed seems so much more personal than a chair. Especially if you're going to share one, no?
Personally, I prefer the Nelson "Thin-Edge" series with metal legs. Wood legs makes them feel a bit less "modern" or more traditional to me. I also like the metal H-style legs on these beds partially because they are slightly splayed (which should, in theory, impart greater stability than straight vertical posts) and yet are still inset far enough to reduce the chance of stubbing one's toe on them in the middle of the night.
I haven't inspected one of these in person, but I do own a number of other HM pieces ("new" and vintage) and I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from them based on concerns about quality and/or construction integrity. HM employs pretty strict QC testing, as far as I can tell, and seem responsive to customer service issues if purchased from authorized dealers.
I will admit personal bias here as I've long admired these beds, too, but all this has me (only the tiniest bit) curious as to what sorts of activities are expected to occur on, near, or under this wonderful piece of furniture that might cause worry about the strength of its legs?
Thank you @herringbone and @tktoo2. We too own several other HM pieces and are satisfied with all of them. Some purchased new and others not. The new warranty on this bed is also more assuring than some other manufacturers’. We will go with the H-frame, and I was just told by a SA that the legs are indeed interchangeable. Now for the long wait….
@alemaniac Sounds great! Maybe, when it’s arrived and in place, you could snap a pic and post it here (if not too personal). I always like to see the result of some design considerations.
How long is the wait by the way?
