Hi everyone - I'm new to joining this site however I have always read it for a few years and am in awe of the knowledge everyone has on here - for that reason I thought I would post a picture of some lovely chairs which definitely have a Danish feel to them - but no name on them anywhere just the odd short number stamped in them and the word examined and a number 2 also number 23 all impressed into the wood - ant information gratefully received also, do you guys think they are teak or rosewood? We bought them with a rosewood table, again very danish looking, may post pics of that later 🙂

The photos are blurry, but from what I can make out, I would put Walnut at the top of the list, then maybe Afrormosia, very likely not teak, and definitely not Brazilian Rosewood.

In such a case, I would suggest that a focused closeup of the wood could lead to the species. And photos of the marks could also be very indicative. If the marks look American, and the wood is Walnut, that would tell you a lot.

Following Leif's lead, since mid-range American furniture is rare to non-existent in the UK, it's probably afromosia or some form of mahogany.

The joinery and odd chamferring at the top back of the chair looks identical to a lot of McIntosh chairs. But while they have similar chairs, the backrest spindles are very thin unlike the one I've seen in person.

Just by the way, these are the chairs I was on about:

I don't think they're the same though, they look different proportions.

I did not see the U.K. part. Well that does change the likelihoods. It is very unlikely American then. And therefore very unlikely to be Walnut.

Wow thanks all, I did not expect answers so quickly, thank you so much - I will try and load further pics of the close up of the wood and some of the markings - yes we are in the UK so as you said unlikely (but not impossible) to be American/Walnut. The link you posted does look rather like them, but the spindles are flat arent they where as ours are rounded and a little more 'dainty' than the Mcintosh ones. I have googled Mcintosh chairs and cannot find any like ours.

Could you post a photo of the table that came with the chairs? It might help with the chair identification.

On closer inspection one of the number stamps is F221 - just in case that helps further 🙂

The images are showing up here very small, and they are still taken at a distance. Mahogany (African Mahogany) should definitely be put on the table as well. Teak is definitely out. Rosewood definitely out too.

The table has thrown me off as well.

As soon as I saw the picture I was like "Well that's definitely McIntosh", these unlike the chairs are a really common table over here by McIntosh. But even that is like a weird variation on the usual. There are joists joining the legs at either end which those tables don't have.

Interestingly the joinery under the legs is the same as my McIntosh chairs...

I was thinking it is similar to the"Fonseca " dining table made by Younger, (which has those

stretchers between the legs) but there are other small differences between them and the OP's

table.

Back to the drawing board.....

Thanks guys, we found a Younger table for sale online and it is exactly the same (even the underside pieces etc) so thats great thanks again, we did also see some Younger chairs that had the same 'feel' to them, but not the same design, so maybe they are both Younger. Thanks again, excellent site with very knowledgeable experts!! xxx
