Hello,

I bought these three fiberglass shell chairs recently, with great luck, I might add!
6 years back, I was still in college and lunched regularly at the school of my (now) ex-girlfriend. In the vicinity of that school was an old garage and when I passed by I saw these fiberglass chairs, wich I immediatly recognised as being Eames.
As all this was happening in Belgium, Europe, Eames design looked quite exotic, you don't find vintage examples that easily. When I rang the doorbell for information I got a very grumpy mecanic 🙂 who answered me they were to comfortable to sell and suggested (with a cynical smile) to return several years later.

So last week, I happened to pass the same garage and took a chance. I told the story as above, stated " well, here I am" and took the three chairs back home.

As I'm no expert on American design I would like to take this opportunity for some questions:

> how old would these be?
they have the miller-logo (but not the herman miller name)
> wich base do you prefer with these models? (no rope edge)
> I myself like the simple legs on the armchairs, like to keep it as original as possible, but feel the stacking base on the side-chair is less appealing. I like the aluminum swivel base and wonder if this base is apropriate for this chair.
> as I am located in Europe (Belgium) what would be a good source for these bases?

Thanks in advance!

BJ

H on all of them?
Interesting... Shape looks like Vitra.
eBay is probably your best bet for a 4-star swivel base, unless you can find a local seller.

Only H on the sidechair.
When did Vitra start producing these?
Thanks!
