Looking to purchase these fiberglass shells for a future rest. Any thoughts on their authenticity. The shape looks right and the shock mounts and eiffel bases appear authentic. There are holes drilled in the seat bases for drainage that is sad to see but they appear to be unharmed otherwise. thanks.

They're real, but don't look ...
They're real, but don't look worth restoring in my opinion. If you do, DO NOT dry sand them, airborne fiberglass carcinogenic.

Thanks for the tip
I plan on wetsanding with respirator and possibly doing a light coat of penetrol. Are they originally cream or buff? Was there a specific color name? Thank you for the replies!

Those battens attached to the feet
combined with the weather we've been experiencing here lately makes me want to see one of these chairs mounted to a pair of skis.
Imagine a gentle slope, a few Hot Toddies, a ruptured disc or separated shoulder... WTF? Might be fun!

parchment! ah, thanks!
I would need extra bourbon to go out in this weather right now. Thanks for all the replies. Hopefully picking them up this weekend. Do you think the bases were painted white or did they come originally with a zinc finish? Also, are these 2nd gen?

so were the bases ever painted white from the factory?
I have seen the original zinc finish and even black, but did they come in white? Trying to decide on refinishing. Picked up the chairs today and started removing decades of mildew. So far there is hope! new shock mounts and glides are in order. sold 2 of them to a good friend already that fell in love when I dropped them by her house.

Sorry, but the color
...looks more like "greige" to me. Though in that condition, it's hard to say.
And yes, they did make eiffel bases in white.

Greige
You're right, Greige is definitely a possibility. I was thinking these were Zenith shells at first, since the shock mounts appeared larger in the photo.

Greige!
I think Greige is the right hue. It was hard to see anything past the decades of oxidation, mildew, sand, and who knows what else. The shock mounts were completely trashed from all of the hot/cold cycles they lived through so those will be replaced. Once restored I think the white/greige combo will be beautiful! Cheers!

getting there
Got the old dilapidated mounts off of one chair yesterday (snow day!) then I wet sanded and cleaned the shell with several cleaners. I got through a lot of the staining but alas there is still some discoloration in the seat. This particular chair had the most staining so I believe I will be able to restore the other shell more successfully. Part of me likes the discoloration throughout the shell as it shows its history. I plan on wetsanding up to 600 and then adding a few coats of penetrol. Should I respray the bases white or leave them as is and just clean them up and add new glides? The glides won't be authentic which is why I'm leaning towards a respray. The finish appears to be a basic semigloss. Thoughts? Help? You all have been a great resource thus far. Thanks!
P.S. - I will try to update with pictures soon.
-Ben

done!!!
I thought I would update the thread and show everyone the finished chair. I was able to wetsand most of the corrosion/mildew/staining off. There is a bit left on the inside of the chair but I think I did them justice. There is another chair like the one pictured. The other 2 chairs were sold to a dear friend who is still restoring them. I hope you like!

Nice
to give the sad old things hopeful new lives... Have you found a tolerable solution to the drill holes?
