i buy all the furniture a...
i buy all the furniture and i mean i buy
but i have to let the little woman pick the fabric or I will have holy hell around this place ,
We went with a fabric from S.Harris rather toned down then the rest, as we wanted to try something different like railroading it, that means going vertical when the fabric is going up and down, We should have it knocked out by wednesday I am real excited cause i love the Probber look.
Now i have to figure out how to unload the Baker sofa. I had redone about 5 months ago,
maybe i should find a high binder on 1st dibs to do that but it is done it the brightest orange fabric designed by Liz Claiborne and cool but i thought it was time for a change, any ideas

maharam letters
My fabric of current infatuation is Maharam 'Letters' in the black and white colorway.
Overall on your sofa, 'Letters' is perhaps too much of a good thing - but maybe just on the seat cushions???
In a recent catalog, DWR was showing 'Letters' on some pillows and on an ottoman from their Bottoni collection.
Gorgeous. Bold, exciting. Perfect.
Anyone know?... How does one purchase Marharam fabrics?

just email me at retroredo.com
this is not a offer of solicitation just a offer of kindness and friendship during this holiday season,

That sofa looks almost perfect in the photo
If the photo is actually what you bought, then I'd consider leaving it the solid dark blue.
it sure looks swell to me.

i wish i could have used...
i wish i could have used it, but it was at a youth lounge at a Christian church, and the kids must have been a little rough as they did put a few ciggerate burns in it (bad kids) and it was trashed,
The thing that i think is so funny is Probber with Parzinger Kagan and Evans were the premier designers of modern sofas in the 1960's and you see there stuff bringing the biggest dollars at autions, and on 1st dibs
so to see it come out of a youth lounge of a Christian Church in Oklahoma is really funny to me
Maybe ... a Temple youth lounge in Palm Springs,
anyway the good old boys who took the snap for ebay did take a good picture and they told me after i paid them that they found part of sofa that did not have the smoke burns at a thrift store for 20 bucks and they went by the church for the rest cause they were embarrassed to sell it the way it was,
The whole thing makes such a good story, I wish i could say it was my best deal but i did pay the guys a nice price, but compared to what i saw it at a shop in Dallas for 4 grand. i think I did good and the fellows who sold should have a nice Thanksgiving and that is what it is all about anyway,

my friend Maurice who ...
my friend Maurice who owns Mod 50's bought 22 red leather Jens Rensom chairs that the Masons used when they closed there masonic Temple down they used these chairs in there board room the chairs were from the 60's and un real and were like a large lounge chair not a small chair,( i guess the Grand exhaulted ruler wanted to be comfortable when he presided at the meetings)
He sold them to some guy on 1st dibs but they were un real, the reason I bring this up is sometimes you just don't think that some of these places here in Oklahoma or other small towns would go for such modern cool designers in the 60's , you have to keep a eye open to find the cool stuff and never know where it will show up,
If you want to see the chairs hit Jens Rensom on 1st dibs the guy even says they came out of the Masonic Temple in Oklahoma

LRF...it's such an elegant sofa....
LRF...I think that it's such a high class, sophisticated sofa that I personally would keep it solid, using either a deep green or dark blue quality wool blend...probably a Maharam on it.
As much I as love geometric Eames and Girard (and even Jacobsen) fabrics, I'd keep it solid and simple.
But that's just me.

I Agree
I agree
The shape is so solid and chunky, the plain colour looks great.
I actually like the navy with the chrome, and I don't normally like blues at all.

I agree with both you guys
and so does the wife,
She found a S Harris fabric that is a neat looking fabric and we are going to rail road it , to give it a different look .
I was thinking pattern and she said way to much for that busy room, I should have it finished in the next several days ( perk for owning the place when not busy they will work on my stuff )

its back
i just had this delivered and i think it turned out great.
The fabric is by S.Harris/fabricut
The owners of S.Harris/Fabricut a international fabric company with 70 showrooms are long time friends of me and my family for almost 50 years.
I went to dinner with the owner the other night and told her I found a Harvey Probber sofa on ebay and she told me her late husband was best friends with Harvey Probber and Vladimer Kagan and their home
first in Palm Springs and then in Palm Beach, had all the furniture done by these two great designers and friends, along with Pace,
I just can not believe this sofa came out of a christian Youth center, although i am sure one kid but several unnessary knicks that will not come out but i will always attribute that to character the tag delivery date was 2/10/66 so it is over 40 years old.
I did read that Harvey Probber was the first one to invent the modular sofas and chairs, and I checked all the old auction records, his sofas sell for 7000.00 at auction, I think I did o.k. on this one .
I like the pillows, wife hates them cause they are not comfortable when you sit, but i said they sure look good what do you think?

Only could the guy
who owns an upholstery shop post photos of a sofa in one color fabric on the 14th of November and nine days later post photos of the same sofa in a whole different color and fabric. You are a luck, luck, lucky man Mr. LRF. It looks great! The rest of us (at least in Florida) would still be waiting for the upholster to pick the damn thing up for recovering.

Thanks

Thanks
the upholstery shop comes in handy for me , and is a lot of fun if you want to collect MCM furniture, I am glad that is not my main source of income or I would be a little hungry.
I have a managing partner that I went in business with three years ago and he always says when things get slow all you have to do is look around your house to change things and we will have plenty of work, but just the opposite business has been so unreal every one wants there shell chairs recovered, I sent a chair to England this morning and the person told me that Eames stuff has gotten real hot over there,
The Boyd's are having there big auction with Christies and every one has been talking about how smart those folks are with our weak dollar. and since they have some of the greatest Eames stuff they will do real good.
