Well I received my barcelona chair from modern collections. It was a bit weird they didnt take money from my account until the chair arrived (not a bad thing). The chair arrived the day before MC sent an email with the tracking number.
Well packaged the chair looks terrific. Seems to be very well made. The leather is really nice (I paid extra for the top grain aniline dyed leather).
However there are some issues with the chair frame. There is a dent in the steel and one leg is slightly bent so its a bit lopsided. Also another leg seems to have been scratched by the polishing process.
However... I took some pictures of the damage and emailed modern collections. They immediately volunteered to send a replacement at my convenience and to pick up the damaged frame. I have to say the customer service has been very good. Its a bit worrying dealing with a company only by email as they do not provide a phone number. They usually reply to emails about 2 days after you send one. Not perfect but I think they have good intentions. I was impressed they were so helpful about the damaged frame. Maybe i just have low expectations!
Will try and post pictures when the replacement arrives

Hi Angelman..
Alls well that ends well then..hopefully. It would be nice if there was some kind of quality control to inspect items before they are sent out wouldnt it?.The company seems to be decent enough to sort it out for you though so no problem.

barcelona
glad it worked out for you most of those chairs are now made in China and they turn out great!!! I buy direct from several of the factories over there .and they do make mistakes . I bought a marshmellow chair for the store they forgot to drill the holes . I bought a nelson bench it was wobley . had to get the airgun and redo it .
got a naguchi table and there was some small chips. it seems it is always something... they come packed great
with lots of good packing in a container but I think the quality control over in china is not the best
like Italy or the U.S. They always take it back no questions asked just a picture (credit our accounts and tell us to keep the piece for our show rooms if we want them ) They ask and tell us to replace any thing that is not right... so you or any one else should have no
problems with any of the companies that sell products from China. Where 90 percent of all of the mid-century design furniture is coming from

Alphaville design
I think Modern Collections get a lot of their items from Alphaville design. They are located in Union City, CA, about 1 hour from where Modern Collections are based(If that matters). I've always wanted to visit Alphaville for a tour, maybe even look in the dumpster (if they even make their items in Union city.). Anyone know?

alaphville
They make nothing in Union city CA Just the warehouse .
Every thing they make is from China they have 3 or 4 representive companies with internet stores that partner up with them to make furniture in the factories in China. The more they can make the cheaper it is .
The reps sell there merchandise to brick and morter stores around the USA so does Alphaville .
There products are the best they use the best materials and they try to get it right here in the U.S.A the rest is left up to the
manafactures in China.
