I am ready to light up my nelson cigar. Inherited from my grandmother when she moved from her town house of 50 years to a smaller apartment. She had so many amazing mcm pieces but this was always my favorite - I remember being enthralled as a child and especially loved pulling the chain repeatedly to turn the lamp on and off. I am really happy to have it.
So, here are my questions:
What is the best way to hang the lamp? It's old school so no fixtures included. Just an electrical cord. I don't want anything obtrusive. I want the lamp to be the focus, not the ceiling mount.
Cleaning the patina... I do not want to clean this lamp at all but my fiancee, mother, and grandmother all insist I give it a cleaning. I see their point, but I am undecided. IF I elect to give it a gentle cleaning, what is the best method? My grandmother said she cleaned it a few decades ago. She contacted the company and they recommended a damp cloth and gentle, non-abrasive soap. I tried this on a small area just to see and didn't make a dent. My question is not about cleaning or not cleaning. It's more about if I ultimately give in, what is the best way to go about this project?
PS... I never got any feedback on this post so I'll take this opportunity to try again http://www.designaddict.com/design_addict/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread_show_one/thread_id/17472/
I continue to research Danish desks and the only example I can find with a similar style cross leg is the Wegner cross leg table. They are not exactly the same mounting, but the shape of the crossed legs is similar...
pps... tinypic was quite tedious

Best way
to clean the lamp, assuming that it's in good condition with no tears, is in the thread linked below. If the lamp is already damaged, you should probably leave it alone (and if it were mine I'd leave it alone anyway, aside from maybe a light dusting inside and out).

If you would rather have the ceiling canopy you can order it from Modernica. I've had to do that a few times and i think I payed about $30. My opinion on the cleaning issue is that if you must have a "clean" lamp than you should sell the one you have and buy a new one. Only so many of those lamps were made and each one that gets destroyed means one less.
