anyone know of this company ? i have a bubble lamp, very similar to a george nelson. it is a different material than the howard millers.
Gossamer Lighting
The process for making the lamps involved a lot of flamable VOCs. The overwhelming majority of the material used to make the lamps evaporates, and it pretty environmentally unfriendly. This is a major reason that Howard Miller stopped producing the lamps.
When Howard Miller ended production of the bubble lamps, the equipment for making them was purchased by a local man who continued to manufacture the lamps for many years under the brand Gossamer Lighting. He continued to produce and sell the lamps out of a space in the former Chris Craft boat factory in Holland, Michigan into the 1990s.
For a time, the lamps were made with an alternative formula that produced a thicker, smoother skin. I assume this was an attempt to mitigate the whole VOC problem.
