Hi All,
I hope this is an appropriate question.
I have been shopping for my HM Eames 670/671.
The best price for new that I have found so far is $3948 including tax and delivery.
This is in Santos Palisander and Edelman Dream Cow leather color of my choice. (My first choice)
I can get it in Walnut/Cherry and HM leather for $2818 including tax and delivery.
This is a big decision for me, any thoughts?
Thanks in advance
DPN
Last sale was 15% off.
Unless the next sale's a lot better than that, DPN is getting a better deal now; the prices he's been quoted are 20-25% off the street price.
DPN: This may not matter to you, and maybe it isn't even an issue, but you do know that the three-year warranty only applies if you're the original purchaser and you buy from an authorized reseller, right?
I was not aware of the 3...
I was not aware of the 3 year warranty, however this is through a HM dealer so I believe it would have the same warranty. I will check with my person about that on Monday.
From what I can gather this is a good price. I'm just a little nervous because this is my first big purchase of a dream peace. I'm want to make sure I can say I did the due diligence.

Oh,and re: "dream piece"...
DPN: Were you asking for thoughts on whether to buy your expensive rosewood/Edelman first choice or the cheaper walnut/HM second choice?
If so, then if I were in your position I'd be considering these things:
1. How important is resale value? You'll lose a larger percentage on the upgraded chair if you resell it, because it'll be hard to find a buyer who's willing to pay a 40% premium for it over all the used base-model chairs on the market.
2. How important is the upgraded wood and leather? When I'm completely happy with something I've purchased, I soon forget how much I paid for it; when I wish I'd bought something else instead, I remember the cost every time I look at it.
3. Is a compromise possible? The upgraded leather adds much less to the cost than the upgraded wood; would you be happy with walnut/Edelman?
Good luck... And remember, you can't put a price on happiness.
yep. you're right. i was wron...
yep. you're right. i was wrong about hive and sales tax...its shipping that is free sometimes and sometimes not. thanks for pointing it out...oh yeah, and HM sale was 10% until this past year. Now it's %15. When I was at DWR it was HM-10%, Knoll 7-12%varying, Vitra 15%, Cassina 10%, and then we had our own Semi Annual sale on everything that wasnt licensed and it was 10% off...which now they've changed to %15. 15 is the magic number...and you guys are right, his pricing is way better. Room and Board employees have it best though, their HM is 35%off. Had a friend who worked there the same time i was at DWR. Was jealous because we only got 20% on licensed product.
Thx fastfwd. That is good...
Thx fastfwd. That is good advice.
I do need to make some important decisions. I suppose if I were to sell it I would want to minimize my loss.
My original question was strictly about whether or not you think my prices are as good as I will find for new.
Your suggestion about Dream Cow and Walnut is one of my options and is about $700 less expensive. Walnut was my first choice until I saw the Palisander. My only hesitation with walnut is how it reddens over time. But with the chance of Palisander fading from sunlight walnut my be the best choice for me.
In either case the piece will not be in direct sunlight but an indirect sunlit room.
Thx

You need to buy a vintage chair from a reputable dealer or private party.
Bright, shiny, new and especially boring is what you get from a new 670 when you place one along side a vintage example. Plus resale sucks by comparison.
side by side the choice is easy..........................
How many DA threads does it take to make a decision?
Think about it this way - An HM Leather/Walnut option currently goes for $3900. Plus shipping and or tax depending where you buy it.
Standard price for the upgraded wood (palisander) and the upgraded leather (Edleman) is approximately $5500.
I'd say that getting the Palisander/Edleman option for the base retail price is a good deal.
Or spend 3k on a vintage piece like Mario suggests.
