goo-gone on steroids :: carb cleaner  

just a few days ago i discovered a more powerful alternative cleaner and gunk remover to goo-gone, one of my household cleaning staples: standard carburetor cleaner. this stuff cuts through gum and goo like nobody's business!

it comes in a spray can and sells for around two bucks at your local auto supply store.

i would mention just two words of caution: it shoots out of the can in a very forceful stream, so make sure your eyes are well protected, even from secondary splatter. also, this solvent would probably take the stripes off a tiger, so be careful to avoid inadvertent contact with anything other than your intended target project.

of course, read and follow all manufacturers recommendations and cautions.
