Some of those are long gone, ...
Some of those are long gone, though I do remember playing with my grandparents rotary phone that was on a party line, those were the days...adultery, gossip and alcoholism.
Some kids when I was in primary school rode their horses to school, I'll never forget that.
...ah yes and going for a drive just for the hell of it...and naughty pictures printed on paper, I can't remember the last time I saw anyone wearing a raincoat, thank God.
Well, you said generally...
and for almost everything that we listed there is a small group of people who cherish (or fetishize) it. There are even subcultures and collector clubs that are into these things and more:
8 tracks
Washboards
Ham radio
Early model computers
Antique fashion (who wears separate shirt cuffs and collars anymore other than Chippendale's dancers?)
Steam locomotives
Obscure woodworking hand tools...
I actually heard a program on the radio that explored the idea that there is really NOTHING that is obsolete. There is someone somewhere using old tools, technology, etc. Things never become truly obsolete, just not as widely used.
.
Yeah I suppose the older technology or the habits of use are still there in one way or another.
But I really despise the elimination of public seating, its like you should only be in the city to shop or work, they try it here to discourage bored kids from loitering, they always find something else to sit on.
I love that Lily Tomlin...
I love that Lily Tomlin thing.
Tried to use one of the 'smart' phones yesterday, there weren't any numbers on it and the keys were so small.I'd change to a fixed line and get rid of this thing if that wasnt more expensive, screening calls with a tape in an answering machine, yes yes I'm here!
Ah yes and taping songs from the radio and though I'm no wunderkind with punctuation I regret the slow demise of the apostrophe.
And corks.
Pegboard
My friends had rooms full of music recording equipment, which have all been replaced by a simple computer program now. All this old equipment sells for pittance, but it's all snapped up on eBay by people in Eastern Europe. So you're right, one man's trash is another's treasure
