I think there are actually more proponents of kitsch around here than not, it goes with the territory of collecting. Thing that are cool tend to be in "bad taste". Think of the silly Aarnio puppies, or even pink Eames shell chairs. Now think of all the Chippendale junk in the White House. Pick a side!
Where kitsch becomes really unacceptable is usually in the just-too-crass or just-too-commercial zones... for example collections of contemporary mainstream pornography or Coca-Cola memorabilia are BAD bad taste.. but then time passes and irony happens and there are all sorts of class-based fluctuations and thank heavens Divine ate that dog shit on film because these paradoxes make life worth living. What was the question again?
