i saw cutlery in a home; it looked liked arne jacobsens cutlery; but on the back was mentioned 'michelsen - denmark' and a signature. and i didn't know the 'designer' michelsen. after surfing i found out that the signature is in fact arne jacobsens, that it is his cutlery and that michelsen was the producer. now it is georg jensen. is this correct? or are these two companies one and the same? if in fact these cutlery was made by michelsen, could they have some 'historical' value?

Hi Gerrit
Originally the cutlery was designed for A.Michelsen, a renowned Danish jeweler, 'Supplier of the Danish Royal Court' It was quite an unusual thing for them to do because it was probably the first time they did something in Stainless steel. I do not know why, but they were not successful and after some years turned it over to their colleague Georg Jensen. Jensen has always been a good in marketing and had at that point their own stores in several European and North American capitals. In a way that only northern Europeans understand they kept honoring the fact that the original design was done for A.Michelsen and it stayed both on the circular box and the cutlery. As far as I know (for some time I was involved in selling it in Canada) there is no difference at all between the early and the later production, in fact it is the same tooling. (The stamp is not part of the forming tooling so theoretically there could be a difference in the stamping)
On a more personal note: did you read my thread on Nanny Still? I would love to hear your reaction
