What would you suggest?
I love Louis Kalff style lamps, but I wonder whether they will be functional enough for working on a computer: i.e. will the light spread widely enough, illuminating not just the computer but also books on the table, etc?
Fastfwd has convincingly made a case for the Tolomeo desk lamp. He was talking about the the large Tolomeo I suppose, not the "micro" - I wonder whether the micro would do the job as well?
Do you have other suggestions? And what about Led technology for desk lamps?
Thanks!

Manezon,
I used an Artemide Tizio for a long period and it worked well, but I grew tried of having a "me too" piece and replaced it with the Ingo Maurer Prototype table lamp.
I would venture to say that you will get very good performance from the Tolomeo table lamp. They work well for "everybody and their brother". I was given three Tolomeo Pinza Clip Spot lamps (promotional pieces with Artemide written on the shade in red) by the company that I use around the house and in the garage (in the same fashion as the inxpensive pieces sold at the hardware store) and I am pleased with their function.
Should it be a matter of "bang for the buck" I believe both the Tizio and the Tolomeo are the best choice.

Agreed
Tizia and Tolmeo are the best possible task lamps
I have a few Louis Kalff, but they're accent lamps.

In my Tolomeo post
I was talking about the Mini.
But everything I said would also apply to the big lamp... And (with the exception of the "It's big" comment) probably to the Micro as well, although I don't own one of those so I can't say for sure.

incandescent, halogen, fluorescent, or Led?
Thank you Niceguy and Robert1960!
The Kalff will have to wait then... I would have preferred something a little less ubiquitous than the Tolomeo or the Tizio, but their popularity obviously has a reason.
The question then remains what kind of bulb would be best:
the Tolomeo was probably designed for incandescent light and/or halogen, but in Europe incandescent bulbs of more than 40W are getting hard to find. Halogen is supposedly on the way out as well. I try to use fluorescent as much as possible, but I find that it is rarely strong enough. The Tolomeo now also exists in a Led version. Led will give white light, which is good for work, but tends to be very concentrated (I write this using a cheap Ikea Led desk lamp, and it only illuminates a tiny zone of the desk). But de Lucchi may well have found a solution to use Led differently? Anyone with experience in using Led desk lamps?

Thanks Fastfwd - I thought there were only two sizes, hence my use of the word "big" to refer to your lamp.
