There is a legal version of the truth in which the Great Dane series are not actually Grete Jalk designs, insofar as she did not own the copyrights to them. These are the 127 & 128 and the 167 & 168. The 127 and 128 are very, very subtly modified versions of the 117 & 118, which are Grete Jalk designs and credited according. However, I think all that is legalistic nonsense, really. Grete Jalk is responsible for those designs. The Charles France modifications are too subtle to warrant him true credit for them.
Thank you for your comments although I am still none the wiser regarding the actual designer of the chair. I have now added 2 photos of the France & Son badge ( https://flic.kr/s/aHskLxHDqJ) which has the serial number: 6410287 - hopefully this will shed some more light.
Yes for as frustrating as it may be it appears that the armchair will remain somewhat of a misnomer in regards to its design. That said, it does sound probable that the reality lies somewhere between what Leif and yourself have shared and makes for an interesting story nonetheless.
