I have a friend who want to change from the boring brick fire place, I'm trying to talk her into going with something in a multi-color scheme similar to subway tiles commonly used for back splash in a kitchen, mainly to accentuate to color in her living room. Has anyone ever done this or seen it done? if so please send pictures. Thanks.

We went with vintage...
We went with vintage talavera tiles. That said, I love brick fireplaces and would be hesitant to change what was there unless bricks are damaged or unsightly. Pics would help

Brick has a
fine modernist heritage. Look at Philip Johnson's iconic Glass House: a brick cylinder houses the fireplace and bathroom -- and as a bonus, the floor is brick as well.
Yes, let's see a photo . . . !

other options
is your friend going for a modern look? and is the fireplace functional wood/gas/other?
maybe some other options are a graphic tile or a wood facing?

Don't be scared,
we went from Traditional Heidi to Modern Heidi. It was a big project but we love it.
