I am signing a contract on my house to be built today!!! I will be talking with the architect to see if I can get a fence of some sort put into the existing budget.

In Austin the most popular fences tend to be horizontally oriented slats. Second, which I actually like better, is 4X4 and hog wire. But, my first choice would be an architectural concrete block screen.

I can't seem to find prices on this stuff. Is it costly? Anyone know?

To give an idea of the house, it's pretty midcentury in style with a butterfly roof, large windows and a courtyard.

Congratulations.
8" thick (8x16 or 12x12); material, labor, overhead, profit: $10-12/s.f.
Not including strip footing; trench excavation, backfill, formwork, reinf., etc.
Images below for inspiration; L to R: 1st two conc., metal fence, steel & wood. Owner's can be challenging when designing their houses. Don't forget to hug your architect.
