My 1970's era Ekornes Stressless chair has a slight wobble.  I was inquiring to see if anyone here knows specifically how to remove the base from the chair.  I know there is a plastic piece inside the cylinder which wears out, and can be replaced to correct the wobble issue.  However, apparently the base is VERY hard to get off.  Is there a special tool that is required here?

I had the same problem and it looks to me like the shaft is punched to prevent it from coming apart.  I fixed mine by cutting a number of shims from a metal can and jamming them in between the shaft and the plastic piece you referred to.  I cut the shims about 1/2 inch by 1-1/2 inch and punched them in with needle nose pliers.  It took about 8 shims before the wobble was significantly reduced.

I'm looking for the solution for the same problem.

That's surprising. I've never had any trouble turning those chairs over and simply slipping the round metal base off of the cylinder. Maybe a pic showing what you are having trouble with would help.
