does anyone know how to tell the difference between a real egg chair and a
copy? did fritz hansen always make this chair?did they always label this chair? I found one but it does not have any markings. It seems to have hand stiching, in red material. Can't tell what the shell is made of. It is in a store and the owner bought it from a private individual. The price is $2,500 - seems low for a real egg chair but the store owner was looking for the markings of fritz hansen as well and could not find them.

I am interested in a real one. What do you think? could it be real?

Yes, yes, yes, that's interesting, you're right, look closer, good for you, I think you should go examine a real one, yes it could but you need to be sure.
How about a photo?

Yes
Fritz Hansen has always made the Egg chair. At a certain point (not sure the exact date) they began sewing a small fabric label with their logo on it. Prior to that there were stickers with the FH logo - but stickers can fall off.
Because there have been an abundance of copies of this chair I would err on the side of caution and pass. Or decide if you really want an authentic piece. The price does seem high if the piece is fake. (restoration hardware currently sells a nice looking fake for $1200 by comparison)
