The looming energy and resource crisis will have a huge effect on design and manufacturing. How will we cope? Will designers harvest other industrial by-products for their work? Will design become far more DIY, will well made used furniture and objects sky-rocket in value?

Sometimes I look forward to it, the erasure of second rate designers and manufacturers will be good. Transport costs will increase so much that our only alternative will be to use local resources, both people and materials, hopefully, through that, we'll start to respect ourselves more.

When I spend money I try to be conscious that I'm not spending 'my' money I'm spending community wealth, when this wealth goes to China I patronise a fascist state, contribute to globabl warming, effectively help to destroy my own nations manufacturing industry and import largely inferior goods that will inevitably end up in my nations toxic landfill.

Yes HP...
Does the world really need another $5,000 chair? Or another $50 chair for that matter?
