i have found what i believe to be a vitra eames lounger, it looks very old, can anyone tell me what wood this one is, also where could i get new replacement arm shocks as the ones on this have pulled away, and is it possible to strengthen any cracks as there are a couple. also the head rest shock have really petrified should i replace these or leave them original.

Well, jonnie, you've shown us
a chair that does look a lot like the Vitra version, but only views of the backs of the panels showing what would be referred to as backing or counter veneers not intended to be seen. HM only used the same specie as the face veneers for the backs, so I'd have to guess yours is a "rosewood", though it is lighter in color than some and, in some ways, almost resembles teak in the photos.
The "shock mounts" between the aluminum supports and back panels on later HM versions are hard plastic and could be more accurately called spacers or standoffs, IMO. Perhaps yours are similar?
There are various techniques and materials that might be employed to strengthen/repair cracked panels. It might be best left to an experienced restorer who can inspect the piece first-hand to advise appropriate alternatives.

here are some photo's of the back it doesn't look like the rosewood i have seen on other chairs maybe it isn't vitra maybe an australian company seeing as thats were i am located, it has the three screws for the armrests and is feather and foam filled, also does anyone know someone in australia who restores these chairs!
