I think 1963 might be right Paula, information is a little vague though.
Pete - No problem, my emails mail@retrosixty.co.uk (I'm a sponsor here so think putting email up is ok?!) Do have 670s from time to time. I did see the program! Making money from antiques was another that featured some design.

Is the base of the chair on the 670 and 671 the same as the Herman Miller one in America .
I was told that it was just slightly different. and the chair sat a little differnt.

The Queens special look.
I can not imange one thing that the Queen of England would do that would be Modern .
It sure would be funny if she was a big mid century modern Fan.
G-d knows she has lived through every day of a
ever changing modern design world , but all that tartan and plaid ... I don't know if it would look that cool on a Saarine Womb chair or a Eames Lounge chair by Hille/Herman Miller. Maybe on a nice sofa by Edward Wormley for Dunbar. any way that is
why Queenie has her style and they
love here with her English country
chinse.

re: buck palace - if I...
re: buck palace - if I remember the story right it was basically a bit of PR to show support for British furniture manufacturers. However there did used to be a Duke of Edinburgh (Prince Phillip, the queen's husband, who makes all the gaffes whenever he goes abroad) Design Award during the 60s. Without checking I think it was done with DESIGN magazine and DID give awards to contemporary design - I think that both Robin Day and Robert Welch won awards

my icf base which appears identical to the hille is more like a task? base than a 670. not even close. i mean the angular base or office base seen under shells. not exact but similar. this base i have seen in european refrences going very far back. ill try to find the source. i have no idea why they made them obviously different when most other aspects appear identical

if any of you folks come up with an ottoman with the european base to sell, or just the base, let me know. i'm not hopefull that i'll find one for my chair here in the u.s. I assume they are uncommon here.
