That's my feeling, but I hop it isn't true. Seems the family would have to give the green light on something like this especially - where no manufacturing agreement had been made previously (based on the fact this was never in production).

Yeah for $185.00. I still...
Yeah for $185.00. I still think the $30-50 target full sized version would both be possible and profitable. You sell more. Period. Ply is cheap.
What sell 100 at $2007, when you can sell thousands at $30-50? I don't get it.

Dont you yourself make a good deal of business off of Mr. Demetrious' dear old grandad? I appreciate all the work the Eames family has done to keep the legacy alive. That doesn't mean I think they've made ALL the right choices but you can't knock them for trying. If you think the elephant is that bad of a product just dont buy it.

at the old law firm of Thompson Mckinney and Jones in the late 70's you would be called the conscience of the firm... always has to be some one that poo poos all ideas cause he feels it will demean the firm,
and that is you!!!!!! why would you waste your time writing that first paragraph? that i make money off Eames stuff, i make money off of saarine.jacobsen, panton, mies, cherner, knoll,
nelson, and lots of designers, so what the f*&K does that have to do with the price of corn in Iowa.
Eames did not need the foundation and his grandson to keep the leagacy alive. his legacy will live on and on with out the heirs and their elephants for $2000.00
You stated on this International forum,
This should have been
Uggh.... this is the most ridiculous thing in the world. The plywood elephant should have been picked up by Target and retailed for $30. end of quote
I just have this feeling and it is somewhat hypothetical in theory, that if there were a book signing party and you were introduced to Eames Demetrotous, I have a feeling and it is only a feeling , you would be the first to state how much you love the elephants how wonderful they are and the little children love them cause they can be so educational for them
, Sorry but you lost me on this one,
once again you are putting the Eames on that alter, they were just great designers of the 50's and 60's along with a lot of other great ones,

Let's not pick on people
What LRF does for a living is substantially different than price gouging a reproduction. His business offers a service to people, so that they can restore their valued vintage furniture. Most upholsterers don't know how to correctly restore modern pieces to spec. This would be a service, if it did not exist, that people would look for feverishly in order to save their possessions. I don't think anyone was begging the Eames foundation to reproduce a child's toy at a slightly lesser price than a used car. Personally I don't see the comparison. You're just picking on people now.

"you can't knock them for trying"
I'll knock anyone trying to screw people over with a dead man's design. Believe me, I don't think that they're the only company guilty of this. Knoll International sells 10K sofas. While it is a sham as far as I'm concerned, at least they never made it their goal to produce design for everyone only to jack the prices an exorbitant amount when the principle designer kicks the bucket. But still, their amount of price increase since the midcentury doesn't exactly line up with inflation ... a bit overkill if you ask me!
I don't bitch about this selfishly. I have the pieces I want. My irritation is that it puts it so out of reach from the common man that he will never let himself appreciate these wonderful designs.

whitespike smart young man
Thanks whitespike thats why i think you are a smart young man , and not just because you agree with me, what we do is restore modern furniture, correct..... can hardly compare from profiting from the Eames foundation Hey I thought most of these things were non profit?
I wish them good luck , I am sure they do good things, but like I said , their legacy is set. We should all be that lucky.
Comparing my profiteering to theirs would be like comparing apples to Oranges, both round and you can eat them.
