i recently had a broken spider base, and Herman Miller sent me a new one, this ones a little bit looser then the last and also its slightly different, where the wood meets the metal and the screws go in, the older one has these lip sort of things.
In other words its raised to meet the wood better, the new one did not however, they both had perfect specs and matched up just right minus that one little thing...

heres a pic of the old one i have...
, anyone know when these where changed?

I`ve never
seen this raised edge before.
All the Herman Miller chairs I have had both vintage and recent productions have had a flat top where the spider attaches to the shell.

Interesting, I have always known it to be called a Spider, I assumed it was a nickname.
If you have the Eames book published by Taschen you will see that it is called a Spider in one of the diagrams.

....
This eames chair is driving me insane,
its so perfect, and has to be a real eames lounge chair, even said by the classic specialist that it was real, but it has a few little things that many people havent seen before
just like this spider base.
also didnt have tags on it, i know they fall off, but there wasnt even stuff under the cusions
i had the guys at DWR so confused they have never seen anything like it...\

Classic Herman Miller
Has a 1958 exploded diagram of the chair and the part is referred to as "spider".

Schef, if you doubt the chairs authenticity post some images of the chair with the cushions removed.
Once we can see the nuts and bolts of how the chair is put together many people on here could verify if it is legit.

authentic ...
i will put pics up soon, but i have to say, we removed the cushions at dwr and put it next to the floor sample and it was the exact same, minus the label. the guy at DWR said one thing that many copies screw up is that on the base cushion and ottoman cushion... when unzipped you will see two layers of foam, and mine has that as well, he said that it was Legit.
all the clips are in place, and it has buttons just as the original did,
thats why its confusing to me...
its almost like i bought a model that was in between changes at herman miller or something, The leather was the "better" leather, softer and comfy, the newer models are harder and the color on the black is slightly different...
The only reason im so pressed on it being real, and have to know is cause i payed 2800 bucks for it.
another 600 bucks i could have bought new.
anyway... ill take some pics tonight and put them up
