All and any thoughts please on the ID of these chairs. Structure is fibreglass shell covered with foam, upholstered in what was a petrol blue/black wool or jute fabric now faded to charcoal grey, suggesting some age. What looks like teak tapered legs, no feet or metal studs etc. Have included image of stitching which seems to be particularly well done with what looks like a fine string. the foam lining covering the fibreglass has powdered almost completely which also suggests some age. despite their apparent distress both the upholstery and teak legs appear to be of very high quality and worth a professional clean and restoration. all thoughts on these street rescue chairs welcome. thankyou!

My initial reaction was that they are Eames fiberglass given a custom treatment. There's also the strong possibility they are Eastern European. Have you been able to inspect the fiberglass underneath?

E-E?
thanks, woofwoof
interested in the idea that they could be eastern European, how come?
the fibre glass that is showing through the torn fabric at the top of the chair looks pretty rough, not like a finished fibreglass eames chair, though the shape is almost if not identical. what intrigues me is the fabric and the stitching. It looks too well done for a home made effort, if that is what you mean by custom treatment?

Home job or professional upho...
Home job or professional upholster. Just a thought. The upholstery is just a small part of the whole. The construction of the piece paints a better picture.
Eastern Europe wasn't isolated from the world, and they too had some great MCM designs. This chair reminds me of some of the designs out of the Czech Republic. Yes, one could argue that some are derivative...but they're still quite nice. Regardless of origins or pedigree, I'm smitten with your chairs. My aesthetics doesn't tolerate fiberglass chairs, but an upholstered dowel leg chair like this swoons me.
I hope others can chime in the origins of this species.

Yes
The shape is definitely Eames or something very close to it.
Where are you located?

long shot
this could be a long shot as I know these early eames/sarinnen chairs submitted to MOMA's 1948 lowcost furniture exhibition had plywood shells but is it too ridiculous to imagine that my chairs are an early prototype? perhaps a transition from plywood to fibreglass? If anyone is familiar with the upholstery of the MOMA chairs could you please assess any similarities/differences? I think these chairs could be 50 years old as the foam has dried to a dust and the upholstery has faded dramatically. All thoughts welcome. thankyou.
