It's done. A year or more ago I asked about the Saab 900 classic
and what your thoughts were about it's design, back in the eighties and
early nineties.
For me this is an iconic design and as Saab ended it's life last year it started to tickle.. I watched ads and local sales for a year, burried my wish, digged it back up and lost it all together when it seemed no more 900's turned up with acceptable miledge.
Until this week! A car being sold in my own city, rustfree, last production year ('93), low miledge (137.000km), and for a reasonable price.
I called the seller, he appears to be the owners mecanic, who serviced the car for the last 18 years, he knows the car in and out.
We went, looked at the car and took it out on the road.
Drives wonderfully.
The next day we called him up, payed an advance and a few days ago we
picked our saab up.
Hurray!

My mom had that car!
She drove it for years and years. The chrome trim around the rear window turned brown like all the ones in the US. A very civilized ride for sure, but I'll never understand why SAAB thought putting the ingnition switch down between the seats was a good idea. I guess maybe Euros don't eat and drink in their cars like Americans do.
I like these quirky ideas, tkoo...
Makes the driving experience quite different.
No leathers interior, alas! Just a tidy, well-kept
fabric one (old catalogue says 'alpaca').
Indeed Mark, it's robust though elegant and drives
like a tank!
I like it, I like it, I like it!
If I could I would drive it right between our Grete Jalks and make
it a center piece in our interior, but I guess driving around in it
all day will do quite nicely too...
Over the years that design...
Over the years that design has really grown on me, and it looks like you got a very nice example. I love the color too. My girlfriend went through a similar process with the Volvo wagon. At one point I was sure I had convinced her to get a Honda, but I guess when you really love a car, it is not that easy to let it go, and she is driving a 2004 V70 now, which has been great so far.

I believe that is an image of one of those Vail Police cars from the 1980s that I spoke about in an earlier post pictured in front of the Covered Bridge in Vail Village.
Classic design. I wonder if the gent pictured was able to purchase it with the red/blue bubble gum top?
Note "Happy Tags" license plate.

I suspect that gent may actually be a police officer in uniform - as it looks like he is wearing a badge on his vest. All he needs to complete the look is a cowboy hat. I am pretty sure I remember seeing some police wearing that kind of leisurely uniform in the 80's.
