I must be very lucky
because everything MCM I've bought on eBay has been the real thing. Of course, one Bitossi vase arrived broken, but I decided to keep it anyhow.
I am super careful, but the luck of the Irish (and I'm not Irish) has been with me, I guess.

Well, good for you. Even though this thread is not about your great fortune, thanks for sharing your experience. Boy, a broken piece of pottery! Really? And you kept it?

Joshua, as fastfwd pointed...
Joshua, as fastfwd pointed out, the clock has not run out for proper legal action. While a civil action might be unappealing because it would require your retaining an attorney, I would really urge you to consider the criminal avenue. As I have mentioned in this thread earlier, most prosecutor's offices have a dedicated fraud unit; you could easily contact the DA who covers wherever the seller is located, and they will handle most of it from there. And if that office receives complaints from several of his buyers, you can be sure they will pursue it.

No worries I have a very close friend who is a lawyer in CA. I already contacted Fred to explain that, and hope he realizes it might be easier to simply partially refund me for the items I wish to send back.
The LCM with the DCM backrest is the main issue I have. At least the LCW is real, but simply restored.
I really have been very polite to him, but he seems to be mistaking that for stupidity.
Thanks everyone for the support. It is a crappy way to be introduced to you all, but, It is nice to see some decent people in this study.

For those of you interested
There is quite an extensive message list in my second Complaint case with Ebay.
Once this is decided upon by Ebay, I can copy and paste it here. Fred really seems to almost believe the fabrications he tells. I guess one has to, to be consistent and successful and deceiving the buyer.
Even if it does not rule in my favor, I think it was good to be able to express my thoughts in the opened case forum. It might give Ebay a reason to watch him a little closer.

Joshua, send him a direct link to this forum, although from memory I think somebody has already done that but no harm in doing it again.
Sooner or later it'll be his human nature to see in writing what people are saying about him.
I doubt very much though that he isn't reading the goings on here already....better to keep your enemies close as the saying goes.

Fred is quite aware
Of this message board. Very aware.
But now so is Ebay. The messages documented on the claims case were kind of amusing and epic.
Needless to say I have received about 2k back. He had the bravery to say the DCM back on the LCM chair was original and a rare variant, and that it is impossible to place a DCM back on a LCM frame.
Fred did not seem to think I had an Evans DCM handy of the same vintage to photograph with his "variant" back rest on it.
I linked to Ebay a flickr set of about 20 comparison shots, showing his "superior " knowledge was in fact, just fabrication.
Ebay reps contacted me to actually thank me for how ridiculously detail oriented I was and not emotional. The three I spoke to, def agreed some bigger issues are going on, as I pointed out how he and Modernisa have the same apartment shots and product, and same complaints...thanks to the info on this forum.
It is not over yet, but I also informed him, it would be easy for me to still approach the DA with the remaining 2 chairs I kept and the vast photo documentation and messages I have. My ex the lawyer is chomping at the bit, if he pulls any funny business. I am sure Fred is reading this anyway, so he knows the seriousness by which I take all this, and should be smart and stay away.
But I am happy, I learned a lot about the details of Eames product, stood up to a compulsive liar...got some money back... tipped ebay off to his practices .
Luckily my refund helped me pay for the minty 64' 670/671 I just got, soon on its way from an old lady's house.
Things happen for a reason I guess.

A new ebay account
Hi all,
I am letting everyone here know the fellow in question has established several new ebay accounts all located in California.
The items are refurbished Eames Era items often using parts from old pieces mixed with new parts, or in some cases the items are completely reconditioned and then sold.
To date I have confirmed several Eero side tables, Thurston Lamps & LCWs as just a few of the items he has flogged off as genuine originals. I have noted the items purchased off live auctioneers and then low and behold they turn up later reconditioned.
I know it is the same person because in an odd twist, I sold them something that had nothing to do with ebay some time back, and remembered a similar name in this fellows ebay history.
I cross checked it and sure enough it was identical. What nailed it for me was the fact that he had the same name when we were in private email communication. Once I knew it was him, I emailed him about it and never heard back.
So i am giving fair warning, if it is too good to be true, and is "museum quality" coming out of California, one should ask why it is not at Rago or Wright Auctions house, and the reason is because they are faked.
I know some people on here are sellers of genuine MCM and I think it is down right disgusting that the guys with the genuine article can't get a good price for what should have some signs of wear, and the guy with the fake "perfect Eero side tables" gets "top dollar" for total fakes.
Sure, people should do their research, but when people pay $100 to buy an item and then have to return it at their cost, is that really fair?
A good hint about this guy is check the feedback history, he is keeping it anonymous to avoid people knowing who purchased the fakes and what was purchased.

So
Who is this MrsModern?
She had another seller list her chair a couple days ago, and now another minty RAR.
I think I am too paranoid to buy shells on ebay anymore.

I would be
I would be very weary of ebay. There are great deals out there, but these crazy "perfect-left-in-an-attic" jobs are coming every week - and they are generally false.
For the price crazy people pay on ebay for "minty" items, you coudl almost go to Wright, Palm Beach Auctions or Rago and for $150 more, get confidence and possibly provenance on a piece.
I think ebay has sold more "1940's and 50's" LCWs than were actually made. LOL.
We try to go for very first edition pieces because they are rarely reproduced (often the production method changed) and we avoid the fraud. As an example, an eero iron casted tulip side table is distinct on the bottom and no one would reproduce that unless they are wiling to set up a foundry.

Fair ball to ebay for being what it is as those sought of dealers have always been around but what hasn't been around for that long is forums like this and access to instant research.
The shit on ebay is exactly that but I don't think one can fairly disregard ebay for it's potential.
There are still those 'attic' finds to be found, one just needs to be better educated or at least go into it with a healthy sense of cynicism.
The finest example I've had of ignorance was recent. I deliberately bought a 'faked' painting to leave the schmuck a negative and along comes another buyer and bought it two weeks later even though my negative was staring him in the face! You can't educate a moron!

Authentic label?
Can anyone tell if the label in this eBay auction is authentic? I've never seen a label askew like this and it looks kind of "new".
