Hey all - I recently got two Folke Ohlsson dressers/sideboards (a 3 drawer and a 6 drawer) and it started me down the path to find some info and documentation. I know generally that DUX is Swedish and Ohlsson moved the US in the 50's and started a US branch of the company. Does anyone have any DUX catalogs or original documentation? My pieces say "Made in Sweden" on the bottom - does that help date them or indicate anything? Were all pieces made in Sweden?

I know these are all broad questions and I'm really looking for any information which I am surprised I haven't found because DUX seems to pop up quite often.

Thanks!

Definitely want to piggy back on this. I just picked up a coffeetable with a removeable cane bottom shelf. Nifty little feature and I'd love to know who designed it.

This might be the table "Frisco" by Folke Ohlsson, very often the cane magazine shelf is lost

It's the square one I have. The wood looks to be rosewood but I'm horrible at identifying wood. I'll post pics in a bit.

@frankielemmons.

First off, I have no catalogues. As you say an internet search shows  a lot of results for Dux; mostly brochures and print adverts.

The company history is readily available online.

Here is a summary of what I have found and some links/image below.

Dux patented an ingenious piece of hardware to allow their furniture to become " knock-down". This allowed for cheaper transport costs.

They also licenced some of their designs to companies in other countries, eg; Alf Svensson's "Te-Ve " and Contour chairs were also produced by P I Langlo in Norway. This might explain why you see the burned  Dux brand mark with , Made in Denmark, on some pieces of furniture. As to dating a piece of furniture... have not got a clue. Maybe checking out all the online adverts etc will help?

DUX is still operating, albeit mattress and other foam/ products ( which BTW is where they started), so try contacting them.

ps: I realize you have dressers/sideboards, so probably not knock-down 😉 but you WERE looking for GENERAL information !!

@lexi Thank you! You're right, I was looking for general information and this is more than I was able to find.

I know that DUX operated as an importer too - my Hans Olsen rocking chair for Juul Kristensen has an imported by DUX burn in on it.

The two photos you posted...where did those come from?

@frankielemmons. A Dux furniture catalogue, printed in the USA and for sale on *-bay in the UK. Quote from the listing below. However the seller has not shown many images of the furniture.I won't post the link as per Forum rules 😉 or you could search on E-b** .. Rare Dux Scandinavian Furniture Yngve Ekstrom Folke Ohlsson Arne Jacobsen 1958....Only one hit!!

"Dux furniture catalogue printed in the USA intended for that market. Dux at this point appears to be solely an import company of mainly Swedish designed furniture exceptions being Arne Jacobsen and Borge Mogensen. Designers include Yngve Ekstrom; Folke Ohlsson, Alf Svensson, Bertil Fridhagen and  Karl Erik Ekselius. Well illustrated and laid out brochure"
"Only other copy on opac listed as in the Metropolitan Museum of Art which list the catalogue as 1958? which would be roughly my guess. "

You a re partly right, Lexi.

But Folke Ohlsson stated up the American Branch of DUX shortly after he arrived on the West Coast in 1950.  And quickly expanded to Canada as well.
