i have the frem rojle table with tripod chairs, but only have three chairs. it hasn't been a big deal except now that i bought a house, i actually need more than three dining chairs (and i am paranoid about actually letting people sit on these chairs for fear they will break one)
I have been looking for a fourth chair with no luck, so i am now thinking about selling my three. i feel bad about breaking up the set, although it isn't even a full set. aaaagh the guilt...
anyway, where should i sell them, other than eBay (although that is an option)
Sell one
and keep a pair for sidechairs if you like them so much. Its not like you are breaking up a set as there are only three?. Either stash them and wait for another to show or sell one. When you see people coming to sit on them just whizz them out of the way and tell them you are eating Japanese style..on the floor.
They will
esp. if you are actually looking for scratches that is. Honey,do you think you worry too much?, are you seeking perfection?.I think you should get the chairs that you really want and just enjoy having them,if they get to a point when they need to be restored just have them done!. Its your home and you should like what you put in it i think,go for which ones you want.
i can always do a seat cover
that would be interesting anyway, a floating seat cover on an invisible chair.
i am trying to find out if anyone in town carries the Louis Ghost chairs. We were planning on bringing 2 of them in for our showroom, and if no one is carrying them in town, we might see if we can get the distributing contract.
At least then i could see how they look in my house.
Problem with working in the furniture industry, is the overwhelming number of options available.
the saying goes: 'Cobbler's kids have no shoes' and is that ever true.
i'm in Canada
i can ship, but i think that would get awfully expensive. You are welcome to come and visit me here though!
at least they are light and stackable.
I have one on eBay right now, i originally posted three of them, but revised it to the single chair. I will probably flip flop and sell the other two if there is interest. I love how they look with the table, and just need to wrap my head around getting rid of them.
guilt relief
to relieve set breaking guilt you could sell all of it and get another quality table of similar form that does not have a specific chair associated with it. i have a lovely skovmand and andersen round table w/ two leaves that i cant use do to my girlfriends saarinen obsession.
I wouldn't go with the ghost...
I wouldn't go with the ghost chairs, but that's just me. I can't imagine them aging gracefully. I guess that is why I usually prefer wood, although my dining chairs are Bertoias. Also - since you mentioned comfort as a concern, don't buy anything you cannot test drive first.
A nice set of saarinen side chairs with wood legs would be nice!
i have listed all 3 chairs on ebay now
I've listed the one with damage separately from the pair in good condition, we will see what happens.
I have sat on the Ghost chair and find it comfortable. I agree that it won't age gracefully (then again I don't plan to age gracefully either) but I like the idea of putting a seat cover and having it float on the clear chairs.
The table itself is great, the pop out butterfly leaf turning it into an oval table works well for my space, i plan to pick up random interesting and comfortable chairs to use in the room (i will plan on sitting on the floor until i manage to find them)I will keep an eye out for the saarinen chairs.
Another concern is my need for airiness in this small space, the Ghost would do that...
I understand
the need for an airy aesthetic. I live in a small space too. I use the Bertoias for that same reason - and I agree the ghost would do that.
Another thing that might work - and you might not be into it - is using stools or benches. They keep the visual lower to the ground. I like the use of a parsons table with matching benches. Also - it depends on how you sit but stools could be nice. I have considered getting a small 36" saarinen tulip table with matching tulip stools before. I tend to use the dining area on a very temporary basis - just to eat - so it could work for me. Many people use it as an alternate workspace etc. so they would want a backed and possibly armed chair
