Guilty, your Honor.
I spray-painted the rosewood shell of my ES671 semi-matte black and it now looks entirely appropriate to my eye. It's mine. I paid cash for it. It makes me happy in its painted state. Is there something inherently wrong with that?
Oh, and Daniel? Can't it be argued that production furniture was never "art" in the first place?

try reading the post
I believe Daniel was humourously referring to a previous forum user who justified painting furniture like this on the grounds that it is a form of artistic expression. If you need me to put that into even simpler terms for you just let me know.

Upcycling
Denotes an improved usage or application of a previous product.... Unfortunately, this is not the case here.

Actually I also first thought this thread was about the Arbuck/Nelson saga

Yes, paulanna.
And I'd hate to see this one headed in that direction.
Daniel has an interesting POV and I was simply trying to engage him on this entertaining topic, albeit in my own awkward fashion. My apologies for any misunderstanding.

Blimey!
I pop out for a boozy lunch and it's all kicking off here as usual...
I was being humorous (I think?). tktoo, I have no problem with you spraying your ES671 black, as I know you wouldn't paint it, black, green, yellow and red. Get my drift?
Dan

By 'ART'
I was referring to how the upcycler (is that a word?) would refer to their pieces.
Sometimes these comments don't come across too well on the forum...

Got it, Daniel, but now Heath has gone
and made light of my own awkward fashion and I fear Mark might rescind his offer of that cocktail as a result.
My ottoman needed to be black to match my chair, which came from HM that way, but I put a couple of wash-coats of shellac on it before the paint so it should be easier to reverse, if ever needed.

I very much doubt that
Mark would withdraw his kind offer. He may end buying you a white wine spritzer though.

🙂 I'm sure we can keep things sweet, no real problem with paint here, like it in many ways, it's the colours and combinations above that are unsightly.
If the point is to extend the life of something (some veneer is so far gone theres not much else that you can do) surely black, white and conservative colours are the way to go?

Totally agree
I have no problem with a lick of paint. But something like this doesn't work on any level. Does it?
