was there actually a white and black version of the eames lounge chair ever produced? I've seen many offerings of "original" eames lounge chair totally in black of white (even the wood). They say it's a original, but i cannot find documentation of these version.

Thanks for the help.

Ronald

Hmmm
I highly doubt that since none of the other Eames wood-based designs were ever offered in white (except for the recently released aniline dye).

that's also what i thought. I never could find any documentation of a white version ever being produced. If they indeed made a white version, there should be some sort of information about this somewhere....

black eames lounge chair
I don't know about white, but at least one example was produced (I assume it was custom-ordered) in all black. It's visible in a photo of architect Gordon Bunshaft's living room at page 182 of the book "Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill" (MIT Press 1988).
P.S. I've been reading posts on this forum for quite a while and have learned a lot from everyone here. This is my first post.

Herman Miller
With enough money you could special order just about anything from Herman Miller. I've seen a number of lounge chairs in black or white. You don't see any information about them because they aren't standard offerings from Herman Miller.

That's not
All white...
Vitra, I believe.
Custom order from Herman Miller could also be plausible. Although, I still don't know about white since it wouldn't have been used for anything else (unlike black). There might be one out there though.

Do you mean
white wood? Yech.
Actually, in a clean environment, the white leather looks real nice. What kept me drom wanting this chair is I'm not big on swivel lounge chairs.

Woody
just a spray lacquer over the wood shells. Doesnt seem terribly prohibitive for them to do.
Barry- I like the swivel...that way I can have it pointed at the couch most of the time, but then pivot to watch TV.

all black loungers by vitra...
all black loungers by vitra show up every now and then, though I find them too dark in a bad darth-vader way. I think I've seen an all white one in an old AD issue, just can't remember when.
The vitra base seems more compatible to color variations by the way, I couldn't imagine the the old one in white.

They did design a clear one....
They did design a clear one. The shells were lucite, the upsholstery was clear vinyl, and the stuffing was made from frog eggs.
