i was looking for some info on maarten van severen (one the greatest belgian designers) but apparently he is not in the designersindex (anymore), his (not as succesfull, internationally spoken, but he is also a good designer!) brother is. How come? so i started this thread; which designers are also missing in the index pages? who do you think should also be honored in this hall of fame?
Yes, you are right...
There are many many designers that are missing in the Index. The reason is simple: it takes a lot of time and collaboration with people to add new designers and products. We make new additions in the index with the help and the courtesy of the designers or the producers. We never take the pictures from other websites to easily increase our content.
We are working on improving the tools on Design Addict so that it will become easier for contributors to add new designers in the index. Hopefully, little by little, all the major designers will be included.
Hi Gerrit, Fabiaan Van Severen is in our index because the company Vange, which produces his Y-Table, has asked us to enter all their products in our index. Of course, it is a pity that Maarten Van Severen is not present but we will try to add him as soon as we can.

Jeez, no need to get snippy. These guys are compiling a great resource, which is open to use for everyone & free of any charge. Surely you like this ? I know I certainly do. And I think a lot of other people like and use this resource too. It is great to quickly look something up, check out a designer you are not familiar with, or easily find a picture for somebody who does not know what a specific object looks like. Yep, some designers might not be in yet, but also remark that the only way people do know about this, is because actually like & use the index. Just now Patrick & Alix clearly explained that the index is not to be considered as a finished compilation, but as an ongoing process, where designers + objects are constantly added. And they also explained the slow nature of this process, due to the fact that they want to obtain courtesy/ copyright permission of the designer & company first. Surely such standards are to be admired ? They also explained that the process can be done more quickly if the designer/ company is cooperative/ enthousiastic (in obtaining photos, giving clearance, ..) than if the company needs to be prodded along. Sounds logical to me. So I guess that who is the index is probably determined more by time limitations and by company cooperation than by some sort of underlying manifesto.
btw, Patrick & Alix, a big thank you for the work you have been doing in creating space (forum) & resources for us nitpicky designlovers out here. we do love the intiatives.
Allow me to...
ad a few words to ite's comments. Having written a small number of the bio's in the index myself,I have to agree completely with ite's comments. I am sure that many of the DA participants could contribute by allowing Patrick and Alix to use pictures of products they own. (You own the copyright of any pictures that you take yourself) But also by sending in comments and improuvements. I am sure I am not the only one that has noticed that Sigvard Bernadotte and Acton Bjorn have the same picture (the picture is Bernadotte not Bjorn) and there are probably many more of these minor mistakes that could be corrected. Unfortunately this is more work than what just one person (Alix) can do. As to the criteria, I am sure anyone who goes throught the index will discover how generous and inclusive they are and how mich of the selection is left to the critical reader...which is such a nice attitude.
Thanks Ite and Koen
for your support and understanding.
