Hi im doing a website intended for my school where students can share their homework, course-summaries etc. Im thinking hard of how to do the design of the website. The site is quite simple and registered users can upload their stuff an make accessible for others.
My question is is there some good examples for what kind of the design a website like this can have?

Since yesterday there is a new search engine on the net, it's called google, there you can find thousands of examples.

Pinterest
I think is a good example of a sharing website.
There are others specifically designed to showcase student work Artsthread, for example.

Before pinterest
There were sharing sites like oobject.com and cribcandy.com (still exist). The limitation of all these sites is that the shared content must already exist elsewhere on the web. Users can not upload their own original content, which I believe is what the OP is looking for.

There's also nothing to stop the OP using Facebook as a platform.
Pages can be made privates if this is deemed desirable.
Each year of each course I teach on has a dedicated page for sharing information and work (lecturers and students)

A lot of my creatives use
portfolio sharing sites, such as Carbonmade and Cargo Collective:
