My wife and I just bought a pair of Danish Modern style chairs from a local antique store. Unfortunately, there is no label or mark that I can see on these chairs to easily identify where they came from.

I have done some research but have found nothing that quite matches them. My best guess so far is that they are simply American-designed and made somewhere near the time-period, or at least quite some time ago. This is not to say we don't think they're great -- we like them a lot -- I just doubt they're by any major Danish designer / manufacturer.

They seem to be solid wood throughout, sculpted arm rests and other shaped elements. The joinery looks handsome. No screws or other visible hardware (I assume visible hardware is generally a non-starter for authentic Danish furniture), though there are two support blocks screwed into the rails underneath to support the seat and two screws under the cushions to hold the seat on the front rail. It all looks original to me. The seatback seems to be dowel-joined to the lower seat as well. The seat bottom also has four routed slots, front and back, through which the ends of four rubber supports are threaded, wrapped around and nailed into the bottom. The chairs are fairly lightweight. I have no idea if the cushions are original.

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

my best guess
They appear quite simular to pieces made in Yugoslavia.
Check if they come apart, knock-down with removal of a couple screws.

Yep, they're Yugoslavian. I just sold two of the identical chair the other day and both were marked "Made in Yugoslavia"

setag,
I didn't try to...
setag,
I didn't try to unscrew anything. Too afraid to do it in case they are regular wood screws. But thanks for the suggestion.
If two of you say they're Yugoslavian, then they probably are...and I assume you mean they are from the time period of Danish modern, but just not Danish.
Does anyone here have a clue as to the manufacturers in Yugoslavia who make these?
Thanks so much for offering your expertise.

A gentleman from chicagoantiquesguide has offered his explanation. He says:
I think you are right it is a basic American design chair in the Danish style. In fact it looks exactly as I remember a pair that my parents bought in 1960, with a matching sofa. They would not have been higher than middle class quality ( like Thomasville or equivalent), based on my father's income at the time.

For any who are interested,...
For any who are interested, I also found out that these chairs were most probably made by American manufacturer Bassett Furniture, post 1950. I also saw some vintage ad copy that plugs Bassetts line as "affordable" Danish furniture, to wit:
"Believe your eyes! This Danish-design dresser...this companion chest...and this beautiful new bed...a whole Bassett bedroom for under $200.00!"
As the man from ChicagoAntiquesGuide said, it was no more than middle class furniture.
Still like 'em, though, for our purposes. 😉
