hello forum
i came across on 4 of these teak dining chairs. the upholstery is new. undersides bears a very faded "made in denmark" stamp. the rest is not readable anymore. does anyone know the designer/manufacturer?
thank you very much in advance for your help.

Maybe post a photo of the...
Maybe post a photo of the mark anyway. Sometimes what isn't legible can be recognized from shape, length, etc.

i have seen the same type of weaving on a wegner folding chair model 512. the armrest "paddles" (without the supports underneath) look also similar to the ones on the wegner sawbuck chair. am i totally off...?

BINGO!
thank you pjason for your eagles eyes.
so the chair is from ca. 1955 and by e. knudsen (e. knudsen design studio, odense) where also kurt ostervig was employed.
in the meantime i have found the same chair on 1stdibs attributed to kurt ostervig...wonder who is right?
regards

According to the danish furni...
According to the danish furniture index the chair is in the 1956 mobilia as designed by E Knudsen. Mobilia is considered a very reliable source. This should probably close the case right here, but it is stronger than that even:
There is another chair on the index reliably attributed to E Knudsen, which bears strong similarities to yours. So if yours was designed by an employee, Kurt Østervig, then they both probably have to have been designed by said employee, which is possible less likely and harder to prove.
Next according to wikipedia, not a very reliable source, I know, Kurt Østervig stepped out on his own in 1947, well before this chair was designed. (Or the other).
And if you cross check Wikipedia against Østervig designs on the index, they are definitely dated back to 1952 before either E Knudsen chair. So it appears Wikipedia is right.
You combine all that and I don't think you are left with much of a case for Kurt Østervig as the designer. I think you are left with the story of a seller on 1stdibs thinking that an attribution to Kurt Østervig is worth about double an attribution to E Knudsen.

I don't like the thought of the waste but that micro suede stuff is the devils gift to the world of textiles. Are you going to go with some wool or leather?

well,
I am not really fond of the brown pholstery either. I am thinking about having them redone (or try it myself) with black skai leather. What do you think?
Thanks for the link.

Skai leather
I had to look that up---it's vinyl or at least some type of synthetic, right? Why not do real leather? I find that it's easier to work with than vinyl. But a lot of Danish chairs had black vinyl originally so you'd be ok as far as authenticity, I guess.
