I recently was asked about this dresser, which I'd never seen before, but apparently specimens are readily visible on the internet, and generally credited to Børge Mogensen for Fredericia.
Well obviously it is NOT Børge Mogensen for Fredericia Stolefabrk, which company still exists as Fredericia Furniture. But that is an odd misattribution, as it is so clearly wrong.
Finally something that makes a little sense.
Fredericia Møbelfabrik could certainly have a logo with "FM" and even better it lists the company as G.H. Jørgensen and Søn in January of 1956.
Fredericia Stolefabrik, in 1955, was in bankruptcy, and owned by the Ravnsø family (not Jørgensen), and was making "outdated antique furniture" furniture. And in 1955 it was purchased by Andreas Graversen, and to this day remains in the Graversen family. These facts can easily be verified on Fredericia Furniture's website. Graversen was the one who brought Børge Mogensen on board to design a new modern line for the company.
So there are TWO DIFFERENT companies combined on the Danish Furniture Index as Fredericia Furniture.
We all know the products of Fredericia Stolefabrik/Fredericia Furniture.
Here is an imcomplete listing of the furniture made by Fredericia Møbelfabrik and designed by Ib Kofod Larsen or Henning Jørgensen (very likely he is the H. G. Jørgensen in the name, or perhaps he is the son or some other family member).
Hi. Please let me make clear the story about the two "Fredericia"'s. Originally there were two manufactureres Fredericia Stolefabrik and Fredericia Møbelfabrik which were both located in the town of Fredericia in Denmark. Andreas Graversen of Fredericia Stolefabrik - in the 1970's I think - bought Fredericia Møbelfabrik in order to make sure no one would mistake the two names.
Henning Jørgensen of Fredericia Møbelfabrik was a very skilled cabinet-maker and he continued to work as a for Graversen's Fredericia Stolefabrik, after he had sold his own compay to Graversen.
A funny curiosum is that the son of Henning Jørgensen became the sweetheart of Andreas Graversen's daughter and they went on and got married. So in that way not only the two manufactureres, but also the two families merged.
In 1995 Fredericia Stolefabrik (which had also previously been known under the name Fredericia Stole- og Polstermøbelfabrik), changed its name to Fredericia Furniture A/S - so obviously there is a mistake in the Furnitureindex files.
Best regards
Rasmus Graversen
Fredericia Furniture A/S
Hello, does anyone have an idea who produced this cabinet and when? does anyone have a catalog or a picture of it?
I don't think it's by Borge Mogensen or Jorgen Berg but definitely by Fredericia Mobelfabrik. It has the small blue triangular logo with FM.
