Yes, I immediately reacted to his posting, but it seems so inappropriate to me.
Think about it; MOST people have never seen the chair and it's such a radical design for its time, that it might spark some new interest in quality mid-century modern furniture.
I think I know what it's worth, but I wanted to get tickets and thought I might as well 'show off' a cool item.
Besides, if I get on TV, I intend to quickly explain that I first bought reference books and did some homework before looking for the right lounge chair. This should be helpful to the viewers who like this sort of thing.
.
Actually I agree with Barry, I know the chair, most here would at the least recognise it from books but its easy to forget that most don't.
Its like history docos, some academics might cringe but the best ones know it at least keeps the public engaged in something a bit more edifying than the usual media diet.
I hope it goes well for you.
I once saw a dealer I know...
I once saw a dealer I know on the Antiques Roadshow having a piece he was an expert in / collector of valued. He was acting like he knew nothing about it and the valuer gave him a figure that I reckon was less than he had paid for it or less than he reckoned it to be worth. It was priceless watching him have to swallow it because he couldnt come back at the appraiser with his own thoughts after his little play dumb act.
Pegboard Modern, and Tel bo...
Pegboard Modern, and Tel both have the right idea.
If you want your 15 minutes of fame go for it . maybe you can bring your LaFonda chair reupholstered by your man in Minneapolis, also, that way the band won't be stumped. If you want to hear your self talk go into the shower. everyone knows about the the primary pieces of mid century modern furniture, I want to learn about something that pros like pegboard modern Lucifersum and a few others don't know about.

your response was very perplexing. I don't particularly care about being on TV, but I still think it would be cool to see an obscure Saarinen piece shown on Antiques Roadshow. I've been watching the program since it started here in the US, and believe me, most of their audience is not well versed on mid-century pieces.
Perhaps you are so well advanced in antiques that the program is of little interest to you, but I learn something each episode.
I just don't understand for the life of me, why there has been some significant negatavity about the whole subject.
Just to refrsh your memory, the only MCM pieces I can ever remember being on the program was a Nakamishi table, a Saarinen chair, and I think there was an Eames chair. Other than Stickley and Roycroft, there's been scant little 20th Century furniture featured. Believe me, the lines of the Grasshopper will surprise some of the viewers.
Well we're all over the place on this thread!
Never liked Antiques Roadshow much, but I gotta say that I agree that bringing a piece on just to educate the ignorant public does seem a bit overtly diningenuous to me.
Lunchbox, say it ain't so...you loathe basketball? So sad, It's the only spiort that ever made even the least bit of sense to me. American football is impenetrably dense.
Heath, I'm not a sports person either but I've heard of David Beckham, Pele', Roger Federer and Tim Cahil, none of whom are American. It's not that surprising. What is surprising is that you never heard of Larry Bird who is arguably one of the very best b-ball players to ever hit the parquet. So pardon the disbelief you received.
I'm with you LRF...
