I am in the market for a coat rack. I have no hall closet so right now guest coats get laid on the bed which is not ideal especially with cats who like to lay on them. I would prefer a free standing coat rack. I am open to some suggestions. I have seen a coat rack in the past that I really liked but have no idea who made it. This particular coat rack had what appeared to be a tulip base (though I think it was some color other than white), and at the very top the actual coat hooks jutted out at various angles and had multi-color balls on the end. The top basically reminded me of the Eames Hang It All mixed with a sputnik lamp. Anyone ever seen this coat rack, or know who designed it?
If that coat rack is a no-go, are there any coat racks out there that utilize a tulip base? I want something with a sleek modern look. I think most coat racks are very tacky looking. It's hard finding one that isn't an eyesore. Thanks!

.
Coat rack hooks are a bit tough on fine coats and jackets. I'd rather see a rack that incorporated proper hangers into the design...but then again, I'd rather see no coat at all. Long live the coat closet.
All the best,
Aunt Mark

Castelli Planta
I have a Castelli Planta in black and I love it.
The way the hooks are designed on it does not put undue strain on coats or jackets and the hooks can also accomodate hangers if you wish. I am including a link that contains a photos and you can find other photos by searching "Castelli Planta" This one is designed by Giancarlo Piretti.

Love all the
coat racks by Carl Aubock, both wall mount and free-standing.

An Aubock rack like this
would be super easy to make and then all you'd need to get are some hangers worthy of display.
PS--"hall tree" is another term used for the free standing coat holders, in case you are googling.

Pictured is the Castelli Planta coat rack with Ingo Maurer hangers. Ingo Maurer is too cool.

I have pretty well settled...
I have pretty well settled on the Castelli Planta coat rack. I like how the hooks and umbrella part fold into the stand when not in use. I would like to locate it in the red color but that color seems to be a bit hard to find. If I am unable to locate the red version, then I will probably settle for the black version. If anyone has any leads on where I might locate the red version of the Planta coat stand, I'd be most appreciative.

Also, I know that these...
Also, I know that these pieces are fairly heavy. I am trying to budget my money for this piece. Does anyone know what they weigh? I am trying to determine shipping costs especially if it has to ship overseas. Thanks!
