Clothing
Heath, I like to wear vintage shirts from the '60s and '70s because they fit better than shirts made today. Vintage shirts are more snug, thinner and generally seem designed to show-off one's body. Contemporary shirts are bigger, blousy and seem designed to hide one's shape.
Design is about good aesthetics and function. I find a fit body beautiful, and I like clothes that help reveal that beauty.

Brent,
you should be shopping for European clothes by European designers, very form fitting, not a pleated pant in sight. Try these guys:
Massimo Dutti
Zara (Homme)
Ermenegildo Zegna
Hugo Boss

Nah
Keep buying thrift / vintage. Certainly, fit is the most important consideration for clothing. My approach to clothing is to spend as little as possible (within reason). If you have any sense of style, you'll still end up looking better than 99% of the (American) population anyway.

I only wear European clothing...
I only wear European clothing - as mentioned, most fits very well and thankfully isn't designed for anyone big (a tight fitting t shirt on a very 'big' person really doesn't look cool. Armani clothing is generally very fitted, I also like CP Company for some of their jackets (very warm), Boss is good as mentioned again above. Clothing is about the only area I stay away from vintage as I never fancy the thought of wearing someone else's clothes.
